Position Summary
The Technical Coordinator (“TC”) will have the responsibility for ensuring the Technical Theatre needs of our clients within the Opera House, Rupp Arena, and the Convention Center. TC’s are responsible for ensuring the satisfaction of clients in regard to technical needs, as well as ensuring all technical requirements are safe for staff and patrons. TC will have sole overall responsibility for successful implementation of the client’s Theatrical Technical needs. When required the TC shall also oversee and/or assist in the set-up, successful operation, and maintenance of all types of theatrical systems including lighting, sound, rigging, audio/video, systems etc. utilized during public and private ticketed events held in the Opera House, Arena, and Convention Center
This role will pay an hourly wage of $20 to $25.

About the Venue
Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky is fast becoming THE must play venue. Lexington is an active and thriving market that is craving an active and welcoming venue for events. The heart of any thriving community is its downtown—and Lexington Center and the historic Rupp Arena are truly the heart of downtown Lexington and one of the most widely-recognized entertainment venues in North America. The 20,000-seat arena, affectionately referred to by some as “the Cathedral of College Basketball” is home to the National Champion University of Kentucky men’s basketball program and has played host to some of the most talented and award-winning musicians/artists in the world including U2, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, and many others.
Central Bank Center is our convention side, with over 99k sf of exhibition space, 24k sf each of meeting and ball room space, 50k of hospitality space, 10k sf of flexible space, and over 2500 covered and uncovered parking spaces.
Responsibilities
- Partner with LCC clients to design, develop, and lead the implementation of all Technical Theatrical needs in our event spaces. TCs draft initial designs and manage those technical designs until a show is completed. TCs solve problems and figure out how to implement a client’s desired results to work within the physical limitations of the space, safety regulations, and Local and Federal codes. The development of initial designs and all solutions require consulting with clients and may have significant impact on client budget and Technical Theatrical presence. Designs and solutions created by the TCs cannot be solved utilizing pre-established guidelines or blueprints but are created by the TC to meet the needs of the client.
- Meet with, and communicate with the client via email, and phone to determine in advance all of the client’s technical needs. Establish a professional productive relationship where the client knows they can count on you to look out for their best interest and implement a successful plan for the best outcome. If necessary, responds to any client complaints related to Technical Theatrical presence and provide solutions on behalf of Lexington Center, often without approval from additional LCC staff. Solutions may have a significant financial impact on the client or Lexington Center.
- Communicate with other departments and outside vendors to relay pertinent information for timely planning and delivery of services to the client. TCs often commit the services of additional LCC departments to meet client needs.
- Prepare costing estimates for the client and obtains client approval whenever changes occur and additional cost are to be incurred. Estimates often require independent judgement from the TCs and do not require approval from additional LCC staff before committing the client to additional charges.
- Create Purchase Orders to procure the necessary equipment, material, and services from outside vendors when necessary. Required equipment is often recommended by the TCs to address technical or safety-related concerns.
