This position is hybrid 2x a week within a commutable distance to our Jersey City, NJ location.
We’re looking for an entrepreneurial communicator to join Verisk’s external communications team and tell the company’s story across global, national, trade and local media outlets.
The right candidate will be at home in a fast-paced, matrixed and dynamic setting. They’ll be passionate about storytelling and the impact communications can have on a company’s reputation, culture and revenue, take initiative and embrace the opportunity to pitch story ideas to the media.
The Public Relations Senior Specialist frequently collaborates with professionals across company business units, as well as with the Legal, Investor Relations, Social Media and broader Marketing teams. The role reports to and supports the Director of External Communications.
Responsibilities
- At a high level: support the day-to-day execution of Verisk’s proactive public relations plans
- Build relationships with and pitch stories to reporters at trade, local, national and global (UK, EU, and Asia-Pacific) publications; secure coverage that boosts awareness of Verisk’s expertise, proprietary data and track record of innovation
- Develop, write and distribute effective communications materials including press releases, email pitches, etc.
- Comfortable with data, e.g., use data to inform the communications approach, tell data-rich stories
- Research media outlets, influencers and contacts; compile and maintain corporate media lists and planning documents that align the communications functions and amplify results
- Assist with writing briefing documents, backgrounders, FAQs, award entries, content for speaking opportunities, as well as other communications
- Leverage and maintain the company’s digital newsroom and other assets to ensure they reflect the company’s innovation and are helpful resources for reporters, stakeholders and influencers seeking information about Verisk
- Contribute to earned media measurement and reporting efforts for inter-department and executive level stakeholders, including the use of media tracking platforms
- Respond to media inquiries in a timely manner, including during non-business hours
- Actively participate in crises and issues management efforts and teams
- Maintain a deep understanding of Verisk’s industries, businesses, product lines and value propositions, along with its competitive landscape
Qualifications
- 4-6 years of experience in a PR agency or corporate communications environment
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities to effectively meet deadlines
- Skilled writer and verbal communicator
- Excellent relationship development and management skills across internal and external stakeholders
- Resourceful and comprehensive researcher
- Exceptional project management and organizational skills
- Bachelor’s Degree
