JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our Self-Serve team. The person will play a leading role in designing pieces of the technical roadmap for advertiser self-serve, one of Kevel’s most exciting new product offerings. Working within Kevel’s Ventures portfolio, you will work on greenfield development and in close partnership with the self-serve lead engineer in advising and consulting on this new product’s technical strategy, building its architecture, and creating its backend.

You will work autonomously to bring innovation and improvement to our development workflows, including proactively & independently collaborating across teams on complex integrations and technical questions. As a senior member of the self-serve team, you will exercise leadership skills by working to support and develop more junior teammates by proactively unblocking and pairing. 

LOCATION

Remote - United States (east coast hours, or at least 6 hours / day overlap with east coast hours, are highly preferred). This position is 100% remote. COMPENSATION

The expected total compensation range for this position is $165,000 – $195,000 USD. Kevel uses external, third-party market data to develop specific compensation amounts, which differ based on location and based on the experience level of each individual candidate. We use a similar approach to develop a range for international applicants based on available country-specific data. WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

In this role, you will be responsible for technical design for our self-serve backend, the Advertiser API. You will have significant influence over technical design of this greenfield system, including:

  • Designing components of the API according to its technical strategy
  • Evaluating technical designs from teammates
  • Identifying opportunities for more junior teammates to own technical design on smaller components; supporting them and overseeing their work 
  • Breaking down technical design plans into actionable chunks of implementation work for yourself and colleagues  
  • Ensuring that our system operates at scale by selecting a system architecture relevant for scale and minimal downtime, and deployment systems to support your team’s work. 
  • As an engineering leader within the self-serve team, you will play a key role in supporting the team and developing your more junior teammates. This includes pairing with teammates, helping to unblock work, and supporting teammates in developing their skills in areas where you have expertise.  

SKILLS YOU’LL BRING WITH YOU 

  • Have experience writing backend code in JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Have experience building at scale 
  • Have experience in the weeds of technical design for scaled products, considering things like storage, load balancing, logging, and debugging / traceability 
  • Have experience building APIs specifically for UIs 
  • Have experience working in AWS. This could include tools like EC2, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, Kinesis, EFS, Redshift, SQS, Lambdas, or CloudFormation, Secret Manager and cross account configuration
  • Be well-versed in systems heavily dependent on sorting & filtering 
  • Have experience with system architecture, including deployment 
  • Be excited about focusing on backend development, such as building a synchronization service, API, and connected systems  
  • Have an inclination for building solutions that fit customer needs 
  • Think of development environment setup, tests, and infrastructure as second nature 
  • Plenty of experience collaborating across teams, including reaching out to and figuring out solutions with col
