What You Will Learn:
- Equipment Maintenance/Repair: become proficient with maintenance, repair, cleaning, installation, and inspection of equipment and tools.
- Troubleshooting/Problem Solving: able to solve problems through math skills (largely triangles, rectangles, and cylinders) and visualize problems in 3D when needed.
- Lean Manufacturing/5S: learn the principles and frameworks that manufacturers use to improve the efficiency of their operations.
- Safety: learn the importance of safety in the workplace. Develop safe practices and actively pursue a mindset of safety awareness.
- Quality Control Analysis: analyze the quality of your work to meet the necessary quality and performance standards; track defects, check parts and meet time standard goals. Be mindful of quality and its importance.
- Troubleshooting: determine the cause of operating errors and develop possible solutions. Make small adjustments but speak with the appropriate people (e.g., supervisors, colleagues) on problems that may be more systemic (e.g., a pattern of problems).
- Active Listening: maximize learning by paying attention to what other people are saying (e.g., co-worker, supervisor). Understand occupation-specific terms and their practical meaning. Recognize that listening is essential to safety and know when to ask questions.
- Problem Solving Skills: able to solve problems through A3 problem solving methodology to determine the root cause of the problem.
Job Duties May include:
Maintenance Technicians work to ensure a plant’s equipment and facility are in proper working order. They often have a broad base of knowledge with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Maintenance Technicians engage in preventative maintenance to keep machines from breaking down in the first place. They also engage in reactive maintenance to fix machines when they do break down.
- Job duties may include dismantling, adjusting, repairing, and assembling equipment according to layout plans, operating or repair manuals, and drawings.
- Perform equipment modifications as directed by manufacturing engineering.
- Use test and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot equipment and determine best course of action for repair.
- Work with senior level technicians to perform preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment. Scope of work would include inspection, calibration, and lubrication of equipment.
- Write procedures to document various operations executed by the maintenance technicians. Review these documents with engineering and senior maintenance technicians for accuracy of content.
Maintenance Apprentice position working in conjunction with CareerWise Colorado. Students earn a wage while receiving 2-3 days of hands-on work experience and 2-3 days classroom learning each week. By the conclusion of the program, students will have meaningful work experience, a nationally-recognized industry certification, a professional network and about a year’s college credit, and business realize financial ROI based on the apprentice's work and develop a skilled talent pipeline for hard-to-fill positions.
Approved pay range: $16-18/hr
