About the role

Description

Assist in facilitating, and maintaining all Garden special exhibitions as assigned:

  • Assists in procurement of materials to be used in exhibitions and installation such as fabric, paint, samples, estimates, lighting
  • Performs regular inspection of assigned exhibits to identify deficiencies and upkeep needs. Coordinates with appropriate ABG staff on daily, short- and long-term requirements to maintain exhibitions in good, functioning order.
  • Ensures production schedules are maintained for exhibition installations and deinstallations as set forth by the Exhibits Project Manager
  • Partners with and supervise on-site vendors/contractors to ensure plans are carried out as dictated by the master project schedule provided by the Exhibits Project Manager
  • Ensures compliance with conditions set forth in agreements for borrowed or rented exhibitions/artwork.
  • Assists in receipt and release of exhibition materials and movement of inventory to/from warehouse.
  • Implements and tracks status and needs of assigned projects, including inventory, exhibition materials, scheduling updates, etc.
  • Regularly communicates status of all assigned projects to Exhibits Project Manager
  • Ensures adherence to safe workplace practices and procedures and in all preparation and workshop spaces
  • Intuitively understands how exhibitions impact the work of other departments and diplomatically addresses concerns or feedback.
  • Assist in long term care, organization, and maintenance of off-site storage warehouse and its contents
  • Participate in or lead daily morning meetings for GLHN seasonal staff and ensure assignments are clear, understood and carried out.
  • Serve as on-duty technician during GLHN and Summer exhibitions as-needed


Requirements

As the Senior Exhibits Tech, will assist with the transformation of the Atlanta Botanical Garden

into one of the country’s most-acclaimed holiday lights events. Will help install and maintain holiday lights throughout the garden. Will install lights onto trees, bushes, shrubs and other surfaces from the ground or while standing on ladders and in lifts. Must be a diligent worker with a keen attention to detail who takes pride in their work.

 

  • Install string lights on trees, shrubs, and hedges
  • Install and/or add lighting to various holiday decorative elements throughout the garden
  • Adhere to strict design and quality control guidelines to ensure a beautiful and successful exhibit
  • Trouble-shoot lighting, electrical, power issues during the installation and during the run of show


  1. General Administrative Duties
  • Attend departmental and other Garden planning meetings as needed
  • Maintain effective working relationships with all departments and all levels of management, participating on cross-functional teams as necessary to develop strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee storage, maintenance, and repair of tools and equipment. Estimates needs, costs, and purchasing of necessary equipment and supplies

STATUS AND SCOPE: Exhibitions are a critical part of the Gardens revenue generation process. ABG has developed a strong reputation for putting on high quality exhibitions. The expectations of our members and the public garden community is for top notch shows. Proactively assist the Exhibits Project Manager with all seasonal and special exhibits, including the handling of fine art and being a good steward of multi- million-dollar budgets on some shows.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to obtain training/certification to operate high reach electrical lift equipment 
  • Must be willing to work outside in all types of weather
  • Must work safely following specific safety guidelines
  • Night and/or weekend/holiday hours required
  • Be comfortable working with and leading a team
  • Must have a valid drives license 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work standing for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to all types of weather may be necessary during installation.
  • Ability to climb ladders, kneel, crouch and reach with hands and arms in any direction.
  • Ability to move heavy objects and use basic tools.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights up to 60 ft.
