SENIOR MANAGER - COST ENGINEERING
SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN – WORLD HEADQUARTERS - HYBRID
The Senior Manager - Cost Engineering role is a critical role in the global finance organization. This role will report to the Vice President of Cost Engineering. The cost engineering senior manager will be responsible for delivering cost analysis for both new sourcing and current production spend. The cost engineering manager will work closely with commodity buyers, engineering, finance and manufacturing teams to roll-out should cost models based on globally developed templates and assist purchasing in sourcing negotiations based on factual data. This role will also act as liaison between cost engineers globally and buyers and commodity managers in the regions. Additionally, this role will be responsible for assisting in quotes to customer for new business awards and cost advanced innovation concepts.
The Role:
Your work will include, but not be limited to:
- Support the global finance and purchasing organization to source components at the best cost upfront using fact-based negotiations
- Understanding of activity-based costing, estimate future innovative concepts where all manufacturing process parameters might not be known by making assumptions
- Understanding of automotive manufacturing processes such as stamping, injection molding, welding, extrusions etc.
- Ability to work across multiple functions incl. purchasing, engineering. finance, sales, and manufacturing
- Ability to gather local knowledge and explain gaps between “should costs” and supplier pricing based on factual data
- High level of independent judgment, initiative, creativity, and the overseeing multiple projects

Your Qualifications:
- BS/BE required in Engineering or a related field
- Requires 8+ years cost modeling, cost engineering and/or purchasing experience with a working knowledge of activity-based costing principles
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
- Ability to interface and effectively communicate with confidence with senior level leaders
- Strong technical background and ability to regularly interface with various commercial teams ex. Sales, Purchasing, and Finance
- Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes
Bonus If You Have:
- MBA or Masters in an engineering field
- Requires 10+ years cost modeling, cost engineering and/or purchasing experience with a working knowledge of activity-based costing principles.
