The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst supports this mandate by turning data into insights in support of Markel’s underwriting objectives. This position will be responsible for creating high-quality reports and dashboards that allow Markel associates to effectively monitor their portfolio of business and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Responsibilities 

• Design and create Power BI dashboards and visualizations that present insightful information and will result in actionable results for the business stakeholders.  

• Maintain a strong working understanding of Markel Specialty’s data & analytics solutions in order to effectively communicate features and capabilities. 

• Lead discussions on report/product design to ensure the most important insights are effectively communicated to our customers. 

• Identify, analyze and address diverse, ever-evolving business issues, translate large data sets into digestible results, and develop focused, actionable solutions that support insurance product strategic priorities. 

• Contribute to the analysis and discussion of project work with leaders, peers, project management, and customer engagement.  

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommendations. 

• Support production activities such as functionality testing and acceptance criteria. 

• Provide mentorship and guidance on best practices to other members of the team. 

Required Qualifications 

• 5+ Years of relevant experience working with Business Intelligence technologies (i.e. Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.) 

• 2+ Years of experience with Power BI, specifically. 

• 5+ Years of data modeling experience. 

• Proficiency in understanding relational databases and SQL development. 

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. 

• Experience with Microsoft Office. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Knowledge and experience with other coding languages such as Python. 

• Experience with the Microsoft Azure cloud. 

• Experience with Databricks.
