About the role

Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualification:
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biology, Medicine or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment. Have at least one first-author publication in a highly regarded peer-reviewed journal in the field.

Preferred Qualification:
Laboratory research experience with hematopoietic stem cell biology, cardiovascular diseases, and immunology.

Job Description:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Huichun Zhan in the department of  Medicine/Oncology.

The Zhan Lab focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The MPNs are clonal stem cell disorders characterized by neoplastic hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell expansion over wild-type cells, overproduction of mature blood cells, and increased risk of cardiovascular complications. Using molecular and genetic techniques in transgenic murine models, MPN patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell lines, and primary patient samples, we study the hematopoietic microenvironment niche, clonal competition, and cardiovascular pathology in MPNs. The ultimate goal of our research is to develop more effective therapies for patients with MPNs and other clonal hematologic malignancies.

The Postdoctoral Associate will support basic science and pre-clinical research. The ideal candidate shall possess strong scientific and technical skills, critical thinking ability, and a thoughtful approach to troubleshooting. A strong work ethic, resilience, and motivation are essential, along with openness to developing a research niche that complements ongoing projects.
