Department/Unit Summary:
The Acute Care of the Elderly Unit, also known as 7 Round Wing, is located in Medical Center North at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, is fast-paced and focused on acute medicine. Acute Care of the Elderly is the specialty of this 22-bed unit, which cares for patients 65 years of age and older.
The mission of the ACE Unit is to provide compassionate, quality care that is respectful, patient/family-centered, safe, and cost efficient. Our nurses are able to utilize evidence-based guidelines and specialized gerontology nursing education in caring for the patients on the ACE Unit. The staff experiences the professional satisfaction that comes with making a difference every day for their patients and families, while expanding their critical care knowledge base and applying critical thinking skills to understand and intervene in the care of their patients.
Our population of patients may include patients with any number of co-morbidities, including neurological, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, renal and endocrine medical conditions.
All beds are appropriate for telemetry and sp02 monitoring.
Shifts Available:
- Full-Time Day Shift - 6:45 am - 7:15 pm (three 12-hour shifts/week)
- Full-Time Night Shift - 6:45 pm - 7:15 am (three 12-hour shifts/week)
- Shifts do rotate throughout the week
- Note: Set schedules are not available. Schedules are determined by unit clinical staffing needs.
- All Employees (Night shift & PRN included) are required to attend hospital orientation during regular daytime hours during the first week of employment.
Care Partner Position Qualifications**:
Required: High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)
AND one of the following:
- Current enrollment in a professional nursing RN program with successful completion of the first semester (including nursing fundamentals clinical), or
- Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (certificate of completion required), or
- Minimum of one year of recent experience (within the past two years) as a care partner, nursing assistant, or patient care technician.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of previous experience in a hospital setting
- Flexible availability
- Professionalism and reliability
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- High emotional intelligence
