Position Overview
Michigan Paving and Materials is currently seeking an entry-level Site Safety Coordinator to partner with Safety and Operations to foster a culture of safety. This individual will provide technical and compliance feedback to the field employees in terms of good safety habits to assist in building a safe work environment. We are willing to train the right candidate!

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Motivate behavior change and use an initiative-taking approach to safety.
- Partner with business leadership to drive safe behavior and strong safety culture.
- Comply with federal, state and local safety regulations.
- Be able read, interpret, and advise on current regulations.
- Enforce safety policies by conducting inspections, reporting statistics and counseling managers and employees.
- Responsible for timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company standards.
- Ensure incident investigations are conducted and maintain the appropriate records.
- Conduct inspections and assist with industrial hygiene audits for assigned locations.
- Act as an on-call contact for emergency incident management- in an environment where field staff hours may vary.
- Act as a consultant and resource to managers, supervisors, and hourly employees by providing insight and direction on matters relating to safety incidents or preventable solutions.
- Responsible for facilitating trainings and talking in front of small to large groups of employees.
- Assist with creating safety materials such as but not limited to safety instructional videos, safety brochures, toolbox talks, etc.
- Carry out all assigned tasks and projects in a timely manner.
- Work with government and regulatory agencies – (MI)OSHA, MSHA, DOT, etc. during site inspections in all matters relating to safety.
- Ability to use Microsoft applications and other company computer programs.
- Assist with taking employees to clinic for drug screening and post incident visits.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
- Interact and consult with others in safety to help develop new safety initiatives, injury prevention strategies, goals, and best practices.
Other Requirements:
- Be professional and courteous.
- Travel: Overnight- less than 2% (rare), Within market area by vehicle- 90%
- Office work 10%, Field visits 90%
- Valid Driver’s license required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends, as necessary.
- Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in company documents.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors.
- Perform behavior-based safety observations and deliver positive and developmental feedback.
Qualifications
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities.
Education and Experience
Required: High school diploma. 3 years’ experience in construction field- frontline or safety. OSHA 30 hr. certification in Construction.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health
