The role:

We are seeking a Senior Associate of Information Reporting to support the head of information reporting in overall tax compliance for all matters related to Chapter 3, 4, and 61 tax information reporting. The Senior Associate will manage and train operations team members on information reporting and facilitate the implementation of policies and procedures designed to mitigate risk or non-compliance.

 

 In this role, the Senior Associate will work with external tax reporting vendors in overall compliance for tax reporting, work cross-functionally with other BU and product leaders to identify areas of risk, and work with operations and tax to resolve to ensure SoFi is complying with IRS tax reporting regulations.

 

What you’ll do: 

  • Support Head of Information Reporting in overall tax compliance for all matters related to Chapter 3, 4 and 61 tax information reporting.
  • Manage and train operations team members on information reporting requirements and facilitate an operations structure that can meet regulatory needs while improving member NPS.
  • Facilitate the implementation of policies and procedures designed to mitigate risk or non-compliance
  • Review W-9 collections by product and complete an implementation of back-up withholding on members accounts where B-notices are received and W-9 issues aren't rectified.
  • Lead B Notice (CP2100) tax compliance as well as timely submission of reasonable cause abatement request for 972CG notice for all SoFi legal entities.
  • Work with external tax reporting vendors in overall compliance for tax reporting. 
  • Work cross-functionally with other BU and product leaders to identify areas of risk and work with operations and tax to resolve to ensure SoFi is complying with IRS tax reporting regulations.
  • Partner with project management lead on member related information reporting requirements each reporting cycle to ensure timely filings to relevant tax authorities (Form 1099, Form 1042-S, Form 945 etc.). Where gaps in business operations or data structures are identified, work cross-functionally with retro items to improve the overall member experience.
  • Monitor call center and escalations to identify areas where tax reporting is increasing call volume, which will provide more timely insights on how FAQs, communications or forms can be enhanced to improve member NPS.
  • Coach and assist Tax operations personnel in creating training materials, SoPs etc.
  • Assist in reviewing impact of the new tax reporting regulations on SoFi business and support increased volume in tax filings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Please note the candidate will be required to provide necessary support during the peak time of tax reporting and compliance cycle.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4+ years experience in the field of tax withholding and information reporting required.
  • Understanding of U.S. tax rules and associated compliance as well as reputational risks around information reporting. 
  • Ability to create relationships with business and cross functional teams.
  • Organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time prudently.
