The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in overseeing all on-site construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents and quality standards. This role serves as a key liaison between field crews, subcontractors, project management, and owners.
Key Responsibilities
Site Management & Coordination
• Assist the Superintendent in managing day-to-day field operations across all phases of construction
• Coordinate subcontractor schedules, scopes of work, and on-site activities to maintain project momentum
• Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress, identify issues, and ensure alignment with project plans
• Maintain an accurate and detailed daily field report log
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety policies, procedures, and regulations
• Lead and document weekly toolbox talks and safety meetings with field crews
• Conduct job site safety inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly
• Ensure all permits, inspections, and regulatory compliance requirements are met and documented
Scheduling & Quality Control
• Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating the project schedule in coordination with the Superintendent
• Monitor work-in-place for compliance with plans, specifications, and quality standards
• Identify and communicate schedule risks or deviations, proposing mitigation strategies
• Review submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings with the project management team as needed
Communication & Documentation
• Serve as a primary point of contact for subcontractors and field personnel on site
• Attend and contribute to weekly OAC and subcontractor coordination meetings
• Support the project manager with documentation, change order tracking, and closeout activities
• Communicate effectively with owners, inspectors, and design professionals when required
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• 3–7 years of field construction experience, preferably in commercial, industrial, or multi-family construction
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred (equivalent field experience considered)
• Prior experience in an assistant superintendent or lead foreman role strongly preferred
Certifications (Preferred)
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (required within 90 days of hire if not already obtained)
• First Aid / CPR certification
• Procore or equivalent construction management software proficiency
