Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship and a top secret security clearance is required for this position.
The Day-to-Day:
As a Telecommunications Technician you will installs, configure, provision, and test, integrated and repair telecommunication network systems components in direct support of the governments mission. Telecommunications networks can include video, telephone core switching devices, peripheral devices, and PBXs. The supported networks include convergent networks which include both IP and legacy telecommunications networks. Analyzes telecommunications characteristics ( e.g., traffic, connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes and throughput) land recommends procurement, removals and modifications to network components. Conducts site surveys; plans installations, transitions and cutover of telecommunications components and capabilities. Installs hardware. Coordinates requirements with users and suppliers. Provides Tier 2 on-site and remote supports to telecommunications equipment. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires U.S citizenship and security clearance eligibility.
  • Minimum education and experience level: High School GED with seven (7) years of experience providing technical support to the engineering and testing of complex software/hardware systems in the communications arena.
  • Hands-on experience with the installation, provisioning, maintenance, operation, and testing of five or more of the following equipment types: voice over IP, line of sight microwave, routers, switches Network Management Systems, satellite modems, solid state power amplifiers, low noise block converters
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory configuration and interconnectivity
  • Hands-on experience with network planning for telecommunications switches
  • Working knowledge of signaling protocols and TCP/IP protocol
  • Experience with telecommunications and network analysis, performance, and communications tools (for example: HP, W&G, Tekelec, Fireberd, and Nethawk)
  • Experience with conducting integration and system level testing of telecommunications systems or platforms.
  • An Associate's degree in Engineering Technology may be substituted for 2 years of experience.

Capabilities:

  • Assist with setup, testing, and integration of VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) SATCOM 
  • systems. 
  • Troubleshoot Basic IP Networks 
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment
  • Assist with the provisioning and installation of telecommunications equipment.
  • Assist with the installation and set-up interconnectivity between systems and subsystems with assistance.
  • Configure large-scale network equipment with assistance.
  • Assist with the integration and/or system level testing of telecommunications systems or platforms.
  • Install and set up system interconnectivity.
  • Setup, testing, and integration of VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) SATCOM systems.
  • Install and set-up interconnectivity between systems and subsystems.
  • Install and set up complex, large-scale network equipment.
  • Analyze network configurations for performance and problems.
  • Design and troubleshoot complex IP Based Networks.
  • Perform integration and system level testing.
  • Configure telecommunication and network systems .
  • Provision, install, configure, test, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot telecommunications equipment, including the following equipment types: PBX, landline, GSM, GPRS, UMTS, LTE softswitch, SDH, ATM, routers, switches network management systems.
  • Provide the configuration details and configure laboratory equipment.
  • Lead in the setup, testing, and integration of VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) SATCOM systems. 
  • Develop plans for the installation or configuration of large-scale systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex IP networks
