The Position
Genentech, Inc. seeks a Scientist at its South San Francisco, CA location.
Duties: Designing and carrying out crystallization experiments of small molecule development candidates for clinical readiness. Collaborate with research organizations to design crystallization/salt/polymorph screenings. Analyzing solid materials using sophisticated analytical instrumentation as well as operation, care, and maintenance of said instrumentation. Characterize the physical form of drug substances and products to ensure desired shelf life of physical stability. Documenting results and conclusions via electronic lab notebook entries and development reports. Learning and successfully interacting cross-functionally with other Chemistry Manufacturing & Controls (CMC) functions such as process chemistry, formulation and analytical development as well as analyzing data to share reports with stakeholders. Investigating, creating, and developing new chemical methods, including bench scale crystallization, and analytical technologies for solid-state characterization of drug substance and drug product. Keeping abreast of developments in the solid-state characterization and applying them, as appropriate. Compile reports summarizing screening results and conclusions, and maintain and care of laboratory instruments. May telecommute up to 2 days per month.
Education and experience required: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field and 1 year of experience post-Master’s as Pharmaceutical scientist, Analytical Chemist, Chemist, Junior Engineer or related position.
Special Requirements: 1 year of professional experience must include:
High throughput screening
Analytical characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and microscopy
Bench scale crystallization
Solubility determination of compounds
The expected annual salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of California is $145,224 to $188,200 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
