The Position

Genentech, Inc. seeks a Senior Scientific Researcher Small Molecule Automation at its South San Francisco, CA location.

Duties: Design and perform high-throughput experimentation (HTE) for optimization of reaction. Perform organic chemistry reactions including but not limited to palladium-catalyzed suzuki-miyaura, buchwald-hartwig, photoredox-nickel catalysis, and many others. Collaborate with chemists in the discovery/medicinal chemistry department to plan and execute screening experiments and to further innovate within the field. Perform research and/or development in collaboration with others in chemistry; make detailed observations and analyses data. Help maintain broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in chemistry. Exercise technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses. Maintain familiarity with current scientific literature. Participate in scientific conferences and contributes to scientific journals. Provide support in corporate research and development of patent applications.  

Education and experience required: Requires a Master’s degree in Chemistry, or a related field.

Alternative education and experience required: Bachelor’s in Chemistry, or a related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or related position.

Special Requirements: Position requires academic or industry experience with each of the following skills:

• High throughput Experimentation (H.T.E)

• Analytical hardware e.g. HPLC, GC

• Repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high end analytical and robotic systems

• Software Package e.g. Microsoft office, Unchained Labs, LEA

• Organic chemistry theoretical knowledge;

• Design of Experiment.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of South San Francisco, CA is $116,088 to $155,600.  Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
