Sr Consultant, Business Consulting - PL Underwriting (Automation & Technology)

This Personal Lines (PL) Underwriting Automation & Technology role supports strategic transformation by identifying and executing automation opportunities within underwriting processes. The associate:

• Leads initiatives from concept through implementation, including business cases and cost–benefit analysis.
• Uses data and analytics (pre-/post‑production results, profitability analysis, validation, ongoing monitoring) to drive decision‑making.
• Partners across underwriting, IT, product, operations and analytics to design and deliver changes that align with PL underwriting philosophy, appetite and guidelines.
• Helps PL respond quickly to market demands and maintain/advance our competitive position as automation, modeling and business capabilities evolve.

 

This is an associate opportunity within Nationwide. The title Sr. Consultant refers to the job classification in the organization.

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

• Have Personal Lines underwriting knowledge and expertise:
  • Understand PL underwriting philosophy, guidelines, risk evaluation and rules.
  • Can explain how automation aligns (or misaligns) with risk appetite.
• Bring a business‑driven technical mindset:
  • Comfortable working with systems like PolicyCenter, rules engines, comparative raters, decisioning platforms.
  • Can spot complex improvement opportunities and shape them into workable automation and process solutions.
• Demonstrate model / analytics fluency:
  • Working knowledge of rating, pricing, predictive models and analytics used in PL.
  • Can interpret performance and operational KPIs and connect them back to underwriting and customer outcomes.
• Have a track record of leading cross‑functional strategic initiatives:
  • Proven ability to take ambiguous, high‑impact problems and break them into clear, structured solution designs.
  • Experience driving delivery: from concept and design through implementation and post‑launch monitoring.
• Communicate and influence effectively:
  • Clear, concise communicator; strong documentation and requirements skills.
  • Comfortable coordinating across UW, IT, product, operations, analytics.
  • Able to create executive‑level summaries and influence decisions without direct authority.
