About the role:

Samsara is seeking a resourceful and team-oriented lawyer to help build a growing legal team at a fast-paced technology company. In this role, you will provide a full spectrum of product counseling to the Company in areas such as product liability, product certification, product regulatory, and product privacy. You will have a strong background in product counseling and also excel in taking on new substantive areas and challenges. 

You will have a deep understanding of the technical capabilities of the Company’s connected operations offerings and product roadmap and embed closely with the Company’s product and engineering teams on product rollouts, market expansion, and related matters. You will help guide the Company on nuanced product issues in an evolving technological landscape to ensure alignment with the Company’s principles and compliance with evolving laws. You possess a strong sense of ethics and a refined risk tolerance. Your diligence, judgment, and discretion make you a trusted counterpart in sensitive environments.  

This role requires an independent yet collaborative person who excels in a fast-paced environment and can work across multiple teams. You focus on the details, and you also have the broad vision to bring large and multi-factored projects to completion. In this role, you will: 

  • Scope and build the product counseling function and infrastructure on the Legal Team, and contribute broadly to the growth and success of the Legal Team
  • Manage a broad range of product counseling matters for both software and hardware products, and devise and implement product counseling strategies to drive business objectives and ensure alignment with Company principles
  • Build strong business relationships with the Company’s product, engineering, marketing, and other teams
  • Be an expert on relevant legal and regulatory developments both domestically and internationally, including but not limited to issues related to product liability, product certifications, and product privacy
  • Answer questions and offer legal advice on a wide range of product-related issues across the company
  • Exercise initiative and creativity in solving issues and accomplishing business goals
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school 
  • Membership in at least one U.S. state bar with good standing
  • 4+ years of experience in a law firm and/or in-house position
  • Strong product counseling experience
  • Excellent communicator, project manager, and team player
  • Highly proactive self-starter who consistently delivers
  • Adaptable, flexible and creative
  • Aptitude for maintaining strong working cross-functional relationships
