Job Highlights:

This position is responsible for a variety of duties, including;
  • Plans, schedules, assigns, directs and reviews the work of employees engaged in parts storekeeper duties; coordinates activities with those of other departments; responds to inquiries from vendors and others.
  • Provides input into selection decisions, performance evaluations, disciplinary matters, and other personnel decisions.
  • Orders, receives and maintains equipment parts, accessories, supplies and special tools to be used in the maintenance, service and repair of the County's vehicles and equipment.
  • Issues and distributes parts and supplies; determines availability of parts and estimates delivery time; receives and fills requisitions for specialized orders.
  • Maintains and utilizes ongoing listings of purchase orders; arranges and coordinates pick-up and delivery of orders; maintains contact with inventory suppliers and vendors.
  • Keeping adequate supply of hand tools and safety supplies used for road maintenance and construction.
  • Warehouse inventory control and accuracy experience. 
  • Data entry experience with knowledge of proper state and local taxation.  
  • Ability to multitask with fine details.

DEFINITION 

Under general supervision, assigns, directs and reviews the work of a small staff; participates in ordering, receiving, storing, issuing, controlling and maintaining an adequate inventory of equipment parts, supplies, accessories and related tools and equipment; performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS 

This is the working lead level class in the Parts Storekeeper series. The incumbent performs the full range of assigned duties specifically related to vehicles and equipment parts and supplies, in addition to providing work direction, training, and review to a small staff performing similar work. This class is distinguished from Equipment Superintendent in that the latter has supervisory responsibility for the auto and equipment repair shops in addition to parts and supplies.

  • Issues and distributes parts and supplies; determines availability of parts and estimates delivery time; receives and fills requisitions for specialized orders.
  • Maintains and utilizes ongoing listings of purchase orders; arranges and coordinates pick-up and delivery of orders; maintains contact with inventory suppliers and vendors.
  • Researches and locates resources for non-standard parts and special tools; determines the appropriateness and/or feasibility of substituting parts on the basis of knowledge of interchangeability of such parts.
  •  Inspects parts, supplies and equipment for quality, quantity and correctness; verifies and checks items received against parts catalogs and manufacturer's identification, model or parts number.
  • Prepares or completes purchase orders; maintains a comprehensive record system on parts, tools, supplies; accounts and analyzes records for quality control.
  • Takes periodic parts room inventory, and establishes desirable minimum supply levels on the basis of operational needs.
