Human Resources Generalist

Principal Function: The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing the human resources related functions of the company to include: recruitment, selection and interviewing, benefits, compensation, employee relations and training and development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the Talent Acquisition process from recruitment to onboarding including updating job descriptions, posting positions, sourcing, phone screens, setting up interviews, managing pre-employment screening, coordinating orientation, and overseeing the 90-day onboarding process.
- Drive additional talent management initiatives including, but not limited to: performance management, engagement surveys, employee referral programs, employee recognition programs, exit interviews and succession planning activities.
- Processes bi-weekly payroll via NetSuite. This process includes inputting employee changes, maintaining compliant payroll records, and communicating changes to federal or state regulatory changes.
- Manages the benefit enrollment process for new hires and open enrollment. Coordinates paperwork related to benefits, retirement plans to include 401(k), COBRA continuation, workers’ compensation and unemployment; recommends benefit plan offerings.
- Continually works to boost employee morale, motivation, and retention throughout the company through the creation and implementation of diversity, inclusion, and wellness programs.
- Manages all employee complaints and internal investigations including but not limited to EEOC, DOL, unemployment claims, etc; recommends disciplinary action; works directly with legal counsel on all legal matters.
- Processes all workers’ compensation paperwork and monitors all cases with the insurance carrier, including working with Eastern Alliance on workers compensation, job restrictions or light duty assignments.
- Processes all unemployment compensation interrogatories and participates in adjudication hearings as appropriate on behalf of the company.
- Maintains all OSHA-related logs for compliance and completes all annual reporting and posting at the corporate office and all branches.
- Ensures that all proper labor postings are displayed at all locations.
- Documents and processes all Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork as appropriate.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job does not have employee supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. /B.S.)in general business, business administration, human resources, or other related field; and 1-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous experience in a human resources generalist role is required. Professional Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM-CP certification is desired. Previous experience working in the logistics and distribution industry is desired.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Computer software skills required include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
- Incumbents must have the ability to be able to speak in front of an audience.
- A thorough knowledge of local, state and federal employment-related laws. Paying attention to detail is essential.
- Incumbents must possess strong coaching and counseling skills.
- A working knowledge of OSHA is required.
- A working knowledge of laws and regulations relating to insurance, COBRA administration and worker’s compensation is required.
- A working knowledge of 401(k) plans and the related filings required is essential.
- The ability to train and motivate employees at all levels.
- The ability to analyze data and make sound decisions is required.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality with company records is essential.
- The ability to operate a printer, copy machine, scanner and other office equipment is required.
- The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.
- Incumbent must have the ability to adapt and conform to shifting priorities and demands and execute accordingly.
