The EY Public Policy function focuses on the public policy and regulatory issues that affect EY’s businesses. Our dialogue with policymakers, regulators, investors, and other stakeholders helps inform our views and actions as we navigate the complexity of operating across the globe in over 150 countries.  


The opportunity  


One year contract, with potential for extension, to work in EY’s Global Public Policy (GPP) team. The EY Public Policy function works to advance EY’s strategic objectives in a number of areas, including public policy and regulatory matters related to audit and assurance; sustainability; financial services; technology (artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data and cloud, and other policy matters); and geopolitics.  This Assistant Director role will support the Public Policy team’s work focusing on AI and digital technology, working with both global and areas teams.  


Your key responsibilities 


As Assistant Director, you will work with other members of the GPP team and with other EY colleagues to help advance EY’s AI-related public policy priorities primarily through contributing to the production of written materials (such as AI thought-leadership papers, Points of View, talking points and presentations), and managing these resources. You will also work with the Brand, Marketing and Communications colleagues to help ensure that public messaging which touches on AI public policy matters is attuned to the latest developments and at the highest level of quality. These materials will be used both for EY leaders’ internal meetings and meetings with key external parties, including policymakers, regulators, legislators, standard-setters, trade association members, and other stakeholders. The role will provide you with opportunities to develop subject matter expertise on important matters for EY, as well as to work collaboratively with EY experts from multiple service lines and geographies.   


You will manage your own portfolio of work, in close collaboration with the GPP Assistant Director of Technology & Geopolitics and overseen by GPP’s Global Digital Technology Policy Leader, AI Ethics and Regulatory Leader and the Global Public Policy AI Working Group.

 

Skills and attributes for success 

 

  • Ability to produce high quality written content to inform and share insights with external stakeholders and share EY’s POV with respect to AI policy related matters  
  • Strong English writing skills, including the ability to tailor communications to different internal and external audiences
  • An understanding of and interest in global public policy matters, particularly with respect to AI and related technology regulatory developments.
  • Ability to identify and analyze public policy and regulatory developments, put them into context and identify/communicate key concerns and insight  
  • Ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects and tasks concurrently
  • Strategic thinking skills and experience addressing complex challenges
  • Agility to work with agility and pace under tight deadlines, and to pivot to emerging issues and tasks of an urgent nature
  • Experience of working in complex international organisations, such as to navigate across EY’s service lines and functions

 

To qualify for the role you must have 

 

  • 5+ years experience working on topics related to AI/digital/emerging technology matters
  • Excellent, professional writing skills (English) and experience of producing high quality, professional written materials (including on topics of a regulatory, legal/technical and business nature). Knowledge and experience of writing about public policy-related issues related to AI and/or related digital technologies (share a recent example)
  • Ability to ‘translate’ and communicate clearly about technical matters, to non-expert audiences
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to synthesize complex information from various sources
  • Excellent Project Management and organizational skills.
  • Commercial mindset, understanding and interest in the commercial and other operational and strategic business implications of AI and digital changes . An understanding of – or a willingness to understand – EY’s business and the potential impact of AI regulation on EY’s business
