What you will do:

The Engine Design & Systems Integration (EDSI) organization is responsible for the integration of components, modules, and sub-systems into world class commercial and military propulsion systems.

The F135 program offers an exciting array of challenges as the program works sustain & ensure the F-35 has a Pratt and Whitney engine forever across the three aircraft variants with the USAF, USN, and USMC.

The EDSI Propulsion Systems Analysis team is seeking a self-starting, experienced engineer with strong technical, problem solving & analytical, communication and leadership skills.  In this role the selected candidate will work with the Field Support and Performance Analytics team to develop new algorithms, conduct analysis of field events, and monitor engine health across the fleet.  The role integrates internally with EDSI and Software/Prognostics Teams, Program Chief Engineers, Component Integrated product Teams (CIPTs), and System Integrated Product Teams (SIPTs); Additionally, the role integrates outwardly with the government and Lockheed propulsion counterparts, and US and international customers across the fleet.  The position has upward mobility and exciting challenges ahead!

  • Lead the Depot Induction Performance Workscope effort for the F135 Field Support & Analytics team, working to integrate fleet performance trending, engine dynamics & loads (ED&L), and DPHM advanced lifting algorithm (ALA) knowledge with the P&W sustainment and depot induction teams to streamline future process automation for prescribed F135 depot maintenance.
  • Work with the Field Support and Analytics team lead to provide analysis of field events and address questions from worldwide fleet
  • Monitor engine health across the fleet via trending analytics/algorithms
  • Develop new algorithms to monitor for key issues
  • Integrate with various customers (internal and external) to communicate issues
  • Conduct gas turbine engine system level performance analysis, or transient operability analysis using NPSS engine simulation tools.
  • Support EDSIT (Engine Design & Systems Integration Team) and SIPT (System Integrated Product Team) meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with engine hardware designers, and government and airframe customers, and propulsion system subcontractors.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field and 8+ years of prior relevant aerospace engineering or gas turbine experience, or Master’s Degree in Engineering or related field and 5+ years of prior relevant aerospace engineering or gas turbine experience.
  • Experience with gas turbine engine performance and basic system level operation
  • Experience with gas turbine engine test validation and/or flight test a plus
  • Applied knowledge of gas turbine engine controls and/or software design a plus
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience and/or knowledge of Python programming language.
  • NPSS experience
  • Agile experience
