Junior Museum Specialist

Overview: 
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Junior Museum Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in museum cataloging and collection management, either through internships or professional roles. This position will support the cataloging, preservation, and management of our museum's collections, ensuring they are accurately documented and maintained to the highest standards. This is a 6 month contract to hire.

Responsibilities:

• Cataloging and Documentation:
• Assist in the cataloging of museum artifacts, artworks, and other collections.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records in the museum’s database, including object descriptions, provenance, condition reports, and location tracking.
• Ensure all cataloging adheres to museum standards and best practices.
• Collection Management:
• Support the management and organization of the museum’s collections, including storage, handling, and transportation of objects.
• Monitor the condition of collections and assist with conservation efforts as needed.
• Assist in the development and implementation of collection policies and procedures.
• Data Entry and Database Management:
• Perform data entry and ensure the accuracy and integrity of information in the museum's collection management system.
• Assist with the migration and updating of data in digital records.
• Generate reports and queries from the database as required.
• Research and Documentation:
• Conduct research related to the museum’s collections to enhance catalog records and support exhibitions and publications.
• Assist with the preparation of materials for exhibitions, loans, and educational programs.
• Contribute to the creation of catalogues, labels, and other interpretive materials.
• Support for Exhibitions and Programs:
• Assist with the planning and installation of exhibitions, including the preparation and movement of objects.
• Support educational and outreach programs by providing information and materials related to the collections.
• Collaborate with curators, educators, and other museum staff to enhance public access to collections.
