JOB TITLE: 

Assistant Director, RDO (Research Development Office)

JOB PURPOSE:   

The Assistant Director, RDO fosters collaborative partnerships across campus and beyond, aimed at supporting and growing research infrastructure and capacity at UW and within the state. The Assistant Director will have experience and skills for fostering continued growth in the research enterprise at UW. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the operations of Limited Submission and seed grant research competitions, Medicine Bow National Forest research permitting processes, faculty funding identification, proposal development across campus acting as a liaison for the Colleges of A&S, Business, and Law, professional development, and development of forms and templates to aid in proposal writing and identifying mentors and collaborators on campus. A strong aptitude for exceptional customer service and communication is essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement limited submission and seed funding competitions, US Forest Service permits, and internal RDO/REDD forms.
  • Implement and oversee the limited submission review process.
  • Identify funding opportunities for faculty, staff, and students through funding databases and partnerships with the UW Foundation and Office of Industry and Strategic Partnerships. 
  • Cultivate and establish connections across the University and work closely with other units across campus to strengthen research collaboration and funding opportunities.
  • Advise, strategize with, and engage in proposal development activities with faculty, staff, and students across campus to review and strengthen proposals submitted from those Colleges, acting as an RDO liaison for the Colleges of A&S, Business, and Law. 
  • Manage and guide Grant Development Managers.
  • Work with Grant Development Managers to assist as needed in proposal development in their specified Colleges.
  • Participate in the development of goals and a strategic plan for growth and expansion of research on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree in a STEM field

Experience: 5 years research management experience
