Opportunity at a Glance


This position is responsible for the oversight, development and execution of comprehensive communications strategies to achieve business growth objectives by enhancing the image and reputation of the institution and its brand among students, colleagues, alumni, strategic partners, the healthcare industry and the community. The communications manager is responsible for ensuring overall consistency, clarity and alignment of internal communications. This position will also work directly with the institution marketing director and vertical communications director to develop and deliver an evolving external communications strategy through a range of channels by defining goals and program planning, conducting detailed audits and assessment of internal audiences, and drafting and developing required written communications to support key internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement media relations strategies that support Adtalem’s business objectives.
  • Reporting to the Director of media relations, this position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to design and execute media relations strategies that will generate brand awareness, enhance brand reputation, and mitigate risk.
  • Manage and oversee external communications plans from inception to completion. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with key national and regional media contacts to help secure coverage for the brand.
  • Respond to inbound media inquiries.
  • Collaborate and partner with external PR agency.
  • Prepare and edit communication materials, including key messages, press releases, talking points, fact sheets, and briefing documents.
  • Monitor and analyze industry media coverage (brand included) to identify trends and potential issues.
  • Manage reporting and tracking of earned media coverage and compile quarterly reports for senior leaders.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure consistency of messaging across channels and audiences.
  • Lead, train, and motivate team members, and foster the growth and development of direct reports. 
  • Implement and maintain the company’s brand standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in related positions, public relations required
  • The ideal candidate has strong media contacts and can cultivate new relationships with journalists
  • Experience managing teams and public relations campaigns
  • Excellent writing skills, knowledge of AP style required
  • The successful candidate must possess excellent presentation and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational, logistical, and planning skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines while maintaining work quality
  • Possess a high level of enthusiasm and function well in a team-driven and highly dynamic environment
  • Agency experience preferred, but not required

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $77996.84 and $140851.54. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
