WSP is currently initiating a search for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, Lead Geochemist to join our dynamic team in Madison, WI. Other WSP office locations or remote may be considered for an exceptional candidate. The selected candidate will support geochemistry and hydrogeochemistry related projects and proposal efforts with an emphasis on the mining industry. Projects typically involve permitting, baseline studies, operational support, and reclamation/remediation. We are looking for someone to bring their talents, training, enthusiasm, and solutions-oriented focus to work as a valued and respected member of our multidisciplinary team as we tackle some of the world’s most challenging environmental problems by delivering some of the world’s most relevant solutions.
Your Impact
- Providing support and leadership for geochemical projects, including permitting, baseline studies, operational support, and reclamation/remediation, in particular for the mining industry, but also for the oil and gas, power, and solid waste industries
- Conducting geochemical investigation and characterization studies associated with groundwater, surface water, wastes, and geological materials
- Validating, management, and analysis of geochemical data
- Conducting water quality and geochemical modeling
- Preparing report and presentations and participating in client meetings
- Managing projects according to client-approved scopes of work, and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget
- Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Over 10 years of experience working as an aqueous or mining geochemist, with at least 5 years of consulting experience.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Geochemistry (preferably MSc or PhD) with a focus on geology, environmental science, geological engineering, or related field
- Strong understanding of chemistry and geology. Experience with hydrogeology and hydrology is an asset
- Experience with data management and statistical tools (e.g., Excel, EQuIS, Python, R)
- Experience with geochemical and water quality modeling using common codes (i.e., PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, GoldSim, MIN3P, etc.)
- Ability to direct and execute written reports and presentations to convey technical results to a range of audiences
- Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a collaborative work environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team, in our hybrid work environment
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Occasional travel, including international, may be required depending on project-specific requirements
- Eligible to work permanently in the United States, possess a valid driver's license, and pass a pre-employment physical (including drug screening) and criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working as a consulting geochemist or scientist
- Experience in design and implementation of field programs
- Experience with data validation techniques for environmental data
- Working knowledge of isotope geochemistry
- Knowledge of organic contaminants and microbially-mediated degradation processes
- Knowledge of coal combustion residue (CCR) chemistry and regulatory context
- Understanding of laboratory analytical methods
- MSHA 24hr level qualified or recertification eligible
- HAZWOPER 40hr Operations level qualified or recertification eligible

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $83,100 - $134,600
