Job Description

As a Desk Assistant, you will play an integral role in providing editorial and administrative support to senior staff, producers and correspondents on a daily basis.  

Responsibilities

  • Assist in story development through internet research and phone calls
  • Book and conduct pre-interviews
  • Log interviews and gather visual elements for story production
  • Help with control room duties during broadcast (building banners, chryons, and tape buckets)
  • Format script pages by marking and labeling cures for graphics and taped elements
  • Print script pages and coordinate distribution of scripts to anchor and control room staff
  • Track trending stories and provide updates to Nightly team accordingly
  • Assist with a variety of Nightly Digital responsibilities
  • Edit and/or convert segments for publishing on the Nightly News website
  • Conduct archival searches for stories
  • Pitch and develop original story ideas for the broadcast
  • Manage multiple projects with varying deadlines
  • Other responsibilities may change depending on breaking news and scheduling

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • At least one year professional network news experience, either with a program, bureau or assignment desk
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments while under extreme deadlines, flexible regarding work schedules, must be able to work holidays
  • Willingness and availability to work over time, at short notice, as needed for breaking news and to help update the broadcast
  • This is an onsite position within 30 Rock

  • Strong journalistic writing skills, research skills, and editorial judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in non-linear editing systems, such as Final Cut Pro, Avid, etc.
  • Knowledge of NBC News programs, on-air correspondents, policies, guidelines and practices
