Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Note to Applicants: Position is eligible for hybrid work subject to University policy. This position will be required to travel to Selma, AL weekly.

Job Summary: The Community Outreach Coordinator oversees and directs the efforts of a college or division to work with the community. Works to identify the needs of the community and identifies resources/partners to address those needs. Collaborates with local nonprofits, community organizations, businesses, and University personnel and programs to develop partnerships and coordinate projects. Acts as an overall liaison to the community.

Additional Department Summary: The Community Outreach Coordinator for the Selma Resilience Initiative oversees and directs the College’s efforts to work with the city of Selma, Alabama to improve the economic well-being of Selma. The scope of the initiative may range from economic development outreach/service projects to workforce development to facilitating entrepreneurship opportunities/training. Works to identify needs in Selma related to economic well-being and development. Identifies resources/partners in Culverhouse, the University, and beyond that can address those needs. Develops partnerships that include Selma organizations/Culverhouse/others to address needs. Acts as an overall liaison between Selma and partners. Collaborates with local nonprofits, community organizations, small and retail businesses in Selma with Culverhouse and University personnel and programs that will be instrumental in developing partnerships and coordinating projects that enhance economic well-being in Selma.

Identifies opportunities to incorporate efforts into academic courses (class projects, etc.), research opportunities for faculty, and service/volunteer opportunities for faculty, staff, and students. Organizes and participates in community outreach events to identify and develop partnerships and to promote efforts. Facilitates communication between all stakeholders and provides logistical and administrative support for projects. Develops a system to identify and track metrics to monitor progress being made and provides progress reports to the College Dean and partners. Manages an operating budget for the College’s Selma office/initiatives. Identifies funding opportunities and assists with grant writing and proposal development as needed. Works with Culverhouse development team on fundraising efforts to support the initiatives. Establishes an advisory board, and coordinate/implement quarterly advisory board meetings in conjunction with the Dean of Culverhouse.

This position will be required to travel to Selma, AL weekly.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and some community or public outreach/relations experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent strategic thinking and planning skills. Good public relations, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to engage effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Ability to initiate new projects and programs simultaneously and manage implementation and coordination of such. In-depth knowledge of Culverhouse and University resources. Strong self-motivation. Ability to gain acceptance by all age groups of people in the Selma community, business, College/University, and alumni communities. Ability to coordinate and manage projects that align with community needs, program objectives, and available resources.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in business or closely-related academic field. Experience in grant writing and understanding of funding mechanisms for research and community projects. Experience in community development.
