Department Overview
The Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Administration & Policy is a key position in the Office of the Provost that oversees essential academic and administrative functions on behalf of the education mission to ensure the achievement of operational and strategic goals.
This position oversees the institutional academic program approval and curriculum modification review processes. The management of academic programs includes the development and execution of periodic reviews of all academic programs as well as coordinating the review of new academic programs through the institutional and state level review process. This position also collaborates with the Office of Advanced Practice to oversee the review and approval of proposed Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Programs.
This position also oversees the Academic Program Review process and provides support to departments, Schools and/or Units to ensure that appropriate progress is being made towards addressing recommendations arising from Academic Program Review, as well as the identification of university wide recommendations.
This position also leads the development and maintenance of OHSU’s academic policies to ensure they meet accreditation, state, federal and institutional requirements. The position also ensures that all school level policies are compliant with University policies, ensures that procedures are in place at the appropriate levels to implement policy, and will conduct audits to support compliance. Further this position leads policy working groups and makes recommendations for institutional quality and effectiveness to ensure alignment with best practices.
Further, this position works closely with the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs on engagement of academic leadership at Oregon’s Public Universities to ensure alignment of policies, procedures, and execution of strategic goals. This position also supports the operational activities of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, including but not limited to legislative implementation, student suspension/dismissal appeals, faculty grievances, and authorship attribution disputes, and OHSU employees as students approvals.

Function/Duties of Position
Curriculum Modifications
- Manage the curricular change approval process and ensure the schools are following curricular change processes as stated in OHSU policy. Ensure that appropriate documentation has been submitted in support of curricular changes. Make recommendations to the Office of the Provost for approval or denial of curricular changes submitted by the schools/programs. Maintain the program/curriculum modifications tracking system and related materials. Develop and maintain resources to assist the Office of the Provost, Schools and Programs in the proposing program/curricular modifications.
New Academic Programs/Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Programs
- Work with the Schools and/or Units to shepherd new academic program proposals through the institutional and state approval process. Ensure that all appropriate documentation has been completed and submitted in support of the new academic program proposal. Inform appropriate student services departments of new program proposals so that steps may be taken by those units to prepare for the new academic program. Inform the Assistant Vice Provost for Accreditation when new programs have successfully progressed through the institutional and state approval processes so that documentation can be prepared for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). Assist the Assistant Vice Provost for Accreditation in the management of the Regional Accreditation processes as necessary. Analyze student and academic data submitted by the Schools and/or Units for use in the accreditation process.
- Manage the review and approval process for new Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Programs and coordinates with the Office of Advanced Practice to ensure compliance with employment requirements, and professional development and training expectations.
Academic Program Review
- In support of the Academic Program Review Committee, manage the regular reviews of OHSU’s academic programs and ensure appropriate documentation is maintained in the Office of the Provost. Support and organize the functions of the APR Committee to work with the Schools and/or Units to ensure that appropriate progress is being made towards addressing recommendations arising from program review. Coordinate regular updates for the OHSU Faculty Senate and analyze and disseminate feedback from internal academic program review reports to identify common issues across programs that can be addressed with university
