The Assistant Chief Engineer will oversee daily operations and management of the engineering team, ensuring optimal performance of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and automation systems within a Class A office building. Key responsibilities include providing leadership, managing vendor relationships, coordinating maintenance and repairs, and ensuring tenant satisfaction. The role involves liaising with primary tenant contacts, monitoring energy efficiency, enforcing safety protocols, and assisting in budget preparation and adherence.

What Will You Do?
- Supervise and support the engineering team, ensuring efficient operations and team development.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks for all building systems.
- Monitor and operate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems to maintain optimal performance.
- Lead the team in responding to and resolving building emergencies, ensuring minimal disruption to tenants.
- Act as a primary point of contact for tenant engineering needs, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
- Manage relationships with contractors and service providers, ensuring timely and quality work.
- Monitor and implement energy-saving initiatives to enhance building efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure building systems and practices adhere to local codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Oversee inventory management for tools, supplies, and spare parts, ensuring readiness for repairs and maintenance.
- Assist in creating and managing budgets and tracking expenses.
- Support the planning and execution of capital improvement projects to maintain and enhance building infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate records of system operations, maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
- Provide training for engineering staff on technical systems, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections of building systems and equipment to identify potential issues.
- Recommend and implement improvements in building systems and processes to enhance reliability and efficiency.
What You Bring:
- High school diploma; an associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in building engineering or facilities management. Class A multi-tenant office building experience preferred.
- Two (2) years of people management experience with proven ability to lead, train, and motivate a technical engineering team effectively.
- Relevant certifications such as OSHA, HVAC, EPA CFC Universal Refrigerants, LEED Green Associates and Stationary Engineer's Licenses are highly desirable.
- Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building management systems (BMS).
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and building automation systems.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, workplace safety protocols, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure quality and timely work.
- Experience with budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting for building operations.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for complex building systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with tenants, vendors, and team members.
- Competence in planning and executing maintenance and capital improvement projects.
- Flexibility to respond to after-hours emergencies and work varying shifts as required by Chief Engineer.
