Duties and Responsibilities
This is a public health nutrition position working as a Public Health Nutritionist in the Florida Department of Health in Broward County. Employee provides nutrition education and support in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
This position is designated as a sensitive position and is required to maintain information in accordance with state and federal statutes, rules, and regulations, as well as of the Florida Department of Health in Broward County Policies, Protocols, and Procedures. This position has been delegated custodial authority for their Program/Unit's information set(s) and/or secured areas(s).
Provides nutrition assessment, education and counseling to WIC medical high risk, high risk and low risk clients. Develops nutrition care plans. Provides breastfeeding promotion, education and support to WIC clients. Responsible for documenting all client contacts in the WIC FL-WISE Data System. Determines client program eligibility. Work is performed following DHM 150-24 rules and regulations.
Assists in providing field experience and training for newly hired Nutrition staff. Serves as a coach and mentor for new Nutrition, Clerical, or Health Support staff in order to ensure understanding of the WIC certification process. Monitors competencies for site staff in collaboration with site supervisor.
Assists in QA observations for Nutrition, Clerical, and Health Support staff at multiple WIC sites. Verbal and written feedback is provided to the Public Health Nutrition Supervisor or Senior Public Health Nutrition Supervisor.
Assists in the in-service education for WIC staff.
Acts on behalf of the Public Health Nutrition Supervisor or Senior Public Health Nutrition Supervisor during their absence.
Performs anthropometric measurements and hematological testing for WIC clients following DHM 150-24 rules and regulations.
Attends staff meetings, trainings and staff development activities as required. Completes leave, attendance, EARS, travel and any other reports as required and according to established procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFITIONS :
- Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
- Current employee of Florida Department of Health employees, (includes OPS, Career Service, SES or SMS employees).
- Have a Florida Licensure as a Dietitian/Nutritionist.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willing to work early morning and late evening hours and Saturdays.
- Have (1) one year experience as a licensed nutritionist serving WIC clients.
- Have experience performing Quality Assurance (QA) via observations and/or on reports.
- Have experience acting on the supervisors behalf during their absence.
