Job Description

This role requires a highly motivated and experienced accounting professional with a track record of success overseeing global accounting operations. In this leadership role, you will develop and mentor your team, oversee US GL and certain global accounting activities, partner with other business functions on projects, lead corporate initiatives towards process improvement and support transformational projects to achieve best-in-class results.

This individual must possess the ability and skills to successfully interact with, influence, coordinate, and lead both a geographically and culturally diverse set of financial team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for multiple legal entities in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and SEC Regulations.
  • Responsible for building and leading a service-oriented team and related processes and internal controls to facilitate the flow of information, the timely processing of transactions, and the resolution of discrepancies.
  • Oversee the general accounting, compensation, and benefits accounting in the US. Owner of certain global accounting activities, such as accounting for equity interests in foreign joint ventures, pension accounting, accounting for foreign currency matters, including derivatives and hedging, and restructuring.
  • Lead the Company’s GAAP to non-GAAP reporting process and tracking, including identifying process improvements and system architecture.
  • Oversee the global account reconciliation process and conduct periodic quality reviews of account reconciliations. Review journal entries and various account reconciliations to facilitate the month end closing process.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Accounting team, including designing operational processes to support the Company’s implementation of new accounting pronouncements.
  • Identify automation opportunities while proactively engaging and collaborating with the accounting transformation team to build - from concept to execution - various scalable and transformational processes, as well as to support new business initiatives.
  • Design, implement, and maintain effective accounting processes, policies, and internal controls. Evaluate and recommend best practices and process improvement opportunities. This includes actively seeking process alignment opportunities across all Western Digital subsidiaries.
  • Provide strategic guidance and mentor global teams, including the global accounting shared service center.
  • Liaise with external auditors to provide requested information for quarterly reviews and annual audits, including annual statutory audits/tax returns for foreign subsidiaries.
  • Assist in preparing Form 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K reports, including supporting footnotes for SEC filings. Oversee various supporting schedules to support the filings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with at least 8 years of demonstrated success in accounting roles of increasing responsibility, preferably a mix of both public accounting and corporate accounting roles within a publicly traded company.
  • Active CPA license holder.
  • Experience in a corporate accounting leadership position at a large multinational technology company preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, SEC Regulations and SOX 404(b) compliance.
