New College Faculty Associate– Biological Data Science School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences

Description

The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences is seeking part-time, non-tenure track Faculty Associates for a hiring pool in the areas of statistics, applied computing, and applied mathematics within the biological data science program. The successful candidate(s) will teach in-person or online courses, prepare course materials, evaluate student work, and assist students. Individuals employed as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple appointments at Arizona State University.

Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based on qualifications and assigned teaching load.

The Master of Science degree in Biological Data Science Program includes the following courses (non-exhaustive list) within the areas of statistics, applied computing and applied mathematics:

Applied Computing:

ACO 501: Database Systems and Problem Solving in Python

ACO 580: Practicum - Intro to Python Programming for Problem Solving

Essential Functions of the Position:

• Teach courses in relevant areas.
• Prepare syllabus, appropriate course goals and objectives, and lesson plans for specific online courses.
• Evaluate and select course materials and other teaching materials.
• Facilitate online discussion forums, field student questions, and possibly co-supervise course associates (CAs) and undergraduate assistants.
• Prepare, administer, and grade assignments.
• Administer written mid-term and/or final exams.
• Hold regular online office hours.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• PhD or other appropriate terminal degree in STEM, such as, but not limited to, DO, MD, DC, and PharmD or related field at time of hire

Desired Qualifications:  

• Experience in online instruction
• Record of successful teaching of undergraduate/graduate courses related to the course subject
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students
