Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is work administering Florida's statewide Agreement State program with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The Incumbent exercises independent judgment in formulating policies; and procedures, which have significant impact in public health.

 

Coordinates all Agreement State program changes, maintaining program compatibility with the NRC. Proposes changes in program activities after coordination with other state and federal radiation control programs. Prepares proposed legislation and rule changes.

Serves as a member on interagency, joint agency, or interdepartmental groups and committees as directed by the Bureau Chief. Serves on NRC working groups and takes part in monthly Organization of Agreement States and NRC meetings.

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. 

 

This position is in compliance with and monitors compliance (when applicable) of the mandatory requirements in Section 215.422 and 112.061, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 69I-24.001, Florida Administrative Code. Assigned purchasing card responsibilities.

 

Available on a 24 hour a day basis for response to radiation emergencies. Performs duties as a member of the State Radiation Emergency Response Team.  Must be able to lift 60 pounds of equipment. Must have a valid Florida Driver's License.

The incumbent is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of chapter 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code.

 

Must receive a minimum score of 70% on each written exam of the required core training modules and must attend all required core training courses designated in the training and qualification procedures.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge: Terminology, principles, chart of the nuclides, techniques of ionizing radiation physics, ionizing radiation detection instrumentation and radiation regulations; mathematical principles involving determining radioactive decay, ionizing radiation dose and dose rates. Ability: Train other employees; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to ionizing radiation detection, measurement, evaluation and control; manage radioactive material investigations; mathematically determine radioactive decay, ionizing radiation dose and dose rates; respond to radiological emergencies. Skill: Perform radiological surveys to detect ionizing radiation.

 

Qualifications:

 

Minimum - Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of experience in the area of chemistry, physics, health physicist (radiation related) or nuclear medicine technology (or similar work experience).

 

Travel Time 1-25%
