Mechanical Design Intern (US)
LightmatterAbout the role
We are hiring a Mechanical Design Intern for our Engineering and Operations team at Lightmatter! We are a photonic computer company redefining what computers and human beings are capable of by building the engines that will power discoveries and drive progress in a sustainable way. With modern human progress relying heavily on computers, the world has hit a dead end with traditional transistors, and the prospect of constantly building data centers is an environmental nightmare. Lightmatter has created a solution in photonic computing: using photons instead of electrons to take advantage of their higher bandwidth. We build chips for artificial intelligence computing. Our architecture leverages the unique properties of light to enable fast and efficient inference and training engines.
In this role you will be supporting the systems and platform teams that is developing strategies to enable large scale network topologies using leading-edge photonics links. You will be responsible for leading the mechanical design for the integration of fiber optic flex circuits into rack mount equipment. This would involve making mechanical drawings for the flex circuits, building CAD models of the rack mount equipment, soliciting vendor feedback, and holding design reviews. The results of your work will lead to high bandwidth, large radix networks.
In this internship opportunity, you will work as part of the systems engineering team.
- Responsibilities include generating CAD models and drawings of fiber optic flex circuits using Solidworks
- Have the opportunity to generate CAD models for rack mount infrastructure equipment to house the fiber optic flex circuits
- Lastly, you will design a test setup to measure the performance of the optical circuits
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Science, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or actively pursuing a Master’s in the same field.
- Fundamental knowledge in mechanical design
- Proficiency in CAD software, specifically solidworks
- Preferred knowledge in mechanical wiring, sheet metal, and fasteners
Benefits
- Comprehensive Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
- 401k matching
- Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
- Company Holidays
- Short Term & Long Term Disability
- Training & Development
