Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Administrative Assistant 4, Academic Affairs Department, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine [R0142565]
ROLE of the POSITION
Under the supervisor of the Director of Operations, Academic Affairs, this role will coordinate and manage activities and operations for the Academic Affairs department. This is a high-level support role that assures efficient administrative function while overseeing day-to-day office management and administrative support. This position also assists with the communication of the implementation of strategic areas/goals for the department of Academic Affairs and will assist and support both the Director of Operations and the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs with administrative and secretarial activities. The person will provide and ensure complete, accurate and proactive administrative support for the two incumbents. In addition, the person will assist with human resources liaison functions.
This position will also act as a liaison to divisions, departments, activities, operations and programs that are internal and external. Will coordinate communications internally and externally; relay and manage sensitive information that impacts programs and educational operations; research and investigate minor complaints; review historical information, precedents, policies and procedures applicable to educational operations. In addition, this role will have a significant intersection with students and will be required to coordinate the administrative functions of the department and educational programming.
Assignments have a wide and specialized breadth and require a higher level of experience/knowledge, critical thinking, management and the ability to work with sensitive and confidential information, along with an understanding of data, trends and patterns. This role also needs to know how to support administrators at all levels. In addition, there will be coordination and management needs for calendaring, meetings, conferences, training, events, purchasing, travel, and budgets. This position can expect to also perform research and compile materials as needed for proposals, grants, committees, reporting and other data collection instruments and presentations. This role needs to work with limited supervision and have the ability to interpret policy, and procedure, make decisions to problem solve and advise the administration on operational issues at hand.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

SALARY
Grade 29 Step 1, $45,184.32. "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
