Overview
The Database Engineer will support ITA’s mission-critical applications and systems by designing, developing, and maintaining both custom and non-custom databases. This role involves identifying data sources, designing data flow and decomposition diagrams, and documenting database processes.The Database Engineer will be responsible for database security, access management, performance optimization, and query development, ensuring compliance with ITA’s governance and security policies. The role also requires experience in database backup, disaster recovery planning, and Azure-based database solutions.This position requires hands-on experience with ITA's core databases, including:- Microsoft SQL Server
- Azure SQL Database
- MySQL
- PostgreSQL
- Oracle
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain custom and non-custom databases to support ITA’s business operations.
- Create data decomposition and data flow diagrams, ensuring data integrity and efficiency.
- Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies for performance improvements.
- Implement database security best practices, including access controls, encryption, and role-based permissions.
- Manage database backups, disaster recovery plans, and high-availability solutions.
- Ensure database compliance with ITA’s governance frameworks, security policies, and ITSM standards.
- Collaborate with software engineers and system administrators to integrate database solutions with cloud-hosted applications.
- Work with Azure Data Services, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse Analytics.
- Perform patch management, upgrades, and database migrations, including Azure cloud migrations.
- Monitor database performance and system health, resolving bottlenecks and optimizing storage.
Requirements:
- Four or more years of experience in database configuration, administration, and maintenance.
- Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.
- Experience designing scalable and secure database architectures.
- Strong knowledge of SQL query optimization, indexing, and database performance tuning.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions, including Azure Data Services.
- Hands-on experience with database security, data encryption, and compliance policies.
- Experience with database patching and maintenance to ensure system stability.
- Ability to develop and enforce database usage standards, policies, and procedures.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (Required)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (Required)
Preferred Certifications:
- Additional certifications in Oracle Database Administration, MySQL, or PostgreSQL are a plus.
