Job Description Summary

The Director will be responsible for Safety, Health, & Environmental oversight of the Power/HVAC, Pump Solutions, and Upstream O&G lines of business. The position will mitigate the organization’s exposure to risk by leading the safety function through risk analysis and prevention within their areas of business line responsibility. The role will also assist SVP, Vice Presidents, and Regional Managers with implementing initiatives and managing performance to those initiatives as they relate to the organizational targets.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads and directs department staff to successfully execute all Safety and Health initiatives.

  • Ensures continual safety improvements and sets annual objectives and targets.

  • Assist Line of Business leadership in addressing tolerance and identifying gaps/strengths within the territory.

  • Assist SVP and Operational leadership in adoption of Engage for Life Principles across the Territory.

  • Analysis of all incidents to identify frequency and severity trends and develop the appropriate loss control treatment.

  • Ensures incident management and investigations are completed within a timely manner according to Sunbelt Rentals Polices. Assist in developing and tracking the appropriate corrective actions.

  • Ensure RSM travel and visits provide a coaching resource for new BM’s and branches that are needing assistance with safety engagement.

  • Assist RSMs in developing their training and audit schedule of the territory based on leading and lagging metrics of the group.

  • Monitors Safety and Health audit schedules and results.

  • Interface with Sunbelt University, RSMs as it relates to safety training.

  • Co-chair the Line of Business SH&E Council meetings.

  • Ensures that leading indicators; Critical Control Checks, Proactive Events, and exposure controls, are understood and applied properly and consistently.

  • Provide feedback on the quality and severity of reported near misses.

  • Ensures appropriate pre-task planning processes are used. JSA, JSS, DWP, and Take 10 cards, as appropriate, are being used prior to tasks taking place and employees are trained on their use.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience plus 10+ years of safety experience

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of Safety regulations and compliance

  • ASP, CSP or CIH required

Physical Demands:

Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job.  Some Sunbelt jobs may require driving for long periods of time, loading and unloading heavy equipment, performing work in extreme weather conditions including rain, wind or excessive temperatures and/or night and weekend work.  All duties must be performed according to Sunbelt’s safety policies and guidelines.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to comply with ADA/ADAAA.
