Cornell Bowers CIS is home to more than 200 employees, which includes nearly 120 faculty. To meet growing student interest in the college’s majors and courses, Cornell Bowers CIS is investing significantly in expanding its faculty by 50% in the coming years, along with enhancing its staff infrastructure. This growth aims to promote research excellence, expand emerging fields, and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration across the university.

Reporting to both the Chair of the Department of Statistics and Data Science (SDS) and the Associate Dean of Administration and Finance for Bowers CIS, the Director of Administration will direct the administrative service group that provides all administrative functions for the Department of Statistics and Data Science (SDS) a multi-college academic unit which is a collaboration with the Bowers Computing and Information Science (Bowers CIS), College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the school of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) with total operating budgets and research expenditures of ~$10M annually.
Responsibilities/Duties
Areas of responsibility include personnel, finance and budget (including grants and contracts), facilities, academic program support, instructional and technology support, computer services, development, external communications and marketing, and alumni and corporate relations.
Partner with chair, associate deans, academic/administrative directors and senior faculty to ensure effective administrative, academic and research leadership.
Serve as the decision-making authority on administrative matters within the department, advocating for the needs of faculty, students, staff and alumni as appropriate.
Provide expertise, guidance and judgement in decision-making and the interpretation of policies and procedures. Play a leadership role in development of new programs, implementation of innovative and effective interdisciplinary program management, and facilitation of changes in university systems, policies, and procedures in support of unique and non-traditional academic programs.
Serve as a member of the central college administrative leadership group, with responsibilities including setting direction for and leading college-wide administrative initiatives, identification and dissemination of best practices, representation of the college on university projects/committees.
Partner with the Associate Dean in the strategic development, direction and implementation of college initiatives impacting academic units.

Bachelor's Degree w/ minimum 5-7 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in business/administrative management and/or financial operations.
Demonstrated expertise in fund accounting, budget, financial analysis and reporting, personnel management, leading effective teams, facilities management, and strategic planning.
Excellent analytical skills.
