Corporate Accounting Specialist

WECU is seeking a Corporate Accounting Specialist to join our Accounting department located in Bellingham, WA. This individual will be responsible for various accounting functions within the department and assist in special projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the following core accounting components: accounts payable, fixed assets, general ledger, and financial reporting. Ensure credit union is in balance by reviewing daily reports.
- Track and account for expenses related to foreclosures.
- Create balancing procedures for retail products and services. Provide assistance to other departments on balancing inventory to the general ledger.
- Perform weekly reconciliations of cashier’s checks and accounts payable checks.
- Calculate and post entries related to the sale of loans. Calculate and post entries for sold mortgage servicing rights, including asset impairment and amortization.
- Track and account for the credit union’s investments.
- Create, monitor, balance, and audit general ledger accounts. Train other departments on formal reconciliation of their general ledger accounts.
- Reconcile all bank accounts in a timely manner.
- Perform FR2900 reporting and analysis. Monitor for compliance with Regulation D.
- Assist with month-end/quarter-end/year-end closings to ensure timely preparation of financial statement.
- Set foreign exchange rates daily and process specific foreign items.
- Assist with member back up withholding.
- Assist with the yearly process of escheating dormant accounts, cashier’s checks, and safe deposit boxes to the state(s).
- Assist with tracking and filing of taxes (payroll, excise, Form 990, Form 990-T, Form 945, and use tax). Monitor credit union activities for unrelated business income (UBI).
- Provide assistance to other departments as necessary. Examples: assist with force balancing, proofing, overs/shorts for tellers and vaults, out of balance issues, and other interdepartmental accounting needs.
- Follow policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations. Follow policy and procedures related to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) by consistently running non-member parties involved in wires through the appropriate system. Follow policy and procedures related to Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) by monitoring and reporting suspicious activity to the Compliance Department. Complete mandatory BSA/AML training annually via online web course.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Follows WECU’s policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned and may also assist others to complete tasks and work assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting, or related field preferred.
- Two or more years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping in a business environment.
- A minimum of two years’ experience working with basic accounting principles.
- A minimum of one year’s computer experience including familiarity with personal computers.
- Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to operate computer hardware and detect and resolve operational problems.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple jobs simultaneously.
- Ability to represent the Credit Union in a positive, professional manner in person, on the telephone, and in written correspondence.
- Must have ability to interpret and explain credit union policies and transactions posted to members’ accounts. Must adhere to credit union policies and procedures.
- Ability to work accurately with figures and perform detailed work.
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and resolve offages.

COMPENSATION:
The salary range for this position is from $27.20 to $38.50 per hour.
