Electrical Engineering Intern

Vestas - American Wind Technology has an immediate opportunity for an Electrical Engineering Intern to support the electrical aspects of Vestas wind turbine installation and maintenance. This position supports the Electrical Engineering department in performing electrical engineering assignments using troubleshooting, root cause analysis and electrical design with some latitude for action and problem-solving.

Responsibilities:

General:

1. A basic understanding of WTG product technology around electrical systems
2. Possesses the ability to communicate with other engineers, field technicians and the Operations organization as a developing subject matter expert on electrical systems topics.
3. Assist in the development and maintenance of region-specific technical documentation in support of electrical systems.
4. Assist Electrical Engineers in root cause analysis as required to resolve electrical anomalies during turbine installation, commissioning and service.
5. Assists in the development of cost-effective technical solutions for electrical systems issues.
6. In cooperation with VAME Engineers, coordinates activities with corporate engineering Research & Development department located in Denmark.
7. Assists with internal failure analysis in support of commercial considerations.
8. Able to present an overview of internship projects and conclusions to the Engineering department.

Construction Support:

1. Supports the Evaluation of construction-related issues regarding turbine installation.
2. Assists in preparation and maintenance of necessary drawings, specifications, and documents for project installations and continuous improvement projects associated with construction.

Service Support:

1. Assists with corrective action projects to analyze and resolve field failures of electrical systems/components for wind turbine generators.
2. Under supervision, responds to technical inquiries from service personnel, project managers, and external customers.
3. Assists with preparation and maintenance of necessary drawings, specifications, and documents for wind turbine generator maintenance and continuous improvement projects associated with in-service turbines.
4. Assists with testing and inspection work in the North American region to assist R&D with ongoing improvement testing.
5. Assists in the design of special tools and processes for wind turbine up tower repairs. Ensures compliance with all applicable electrical codes.

Qualifications:

• Enrollment in Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Program with emphasis on power and control systems.
• Ability to handle stress and multi-task in a deadline-driven environment
• Proficient in oral and written communication skills
• Proficient organizational skills, ability to maintain confidentiality
• Flexibility working in an organization that frequently undergoes changes.
• Proficient computer skills, specifically in MS Office products and AutoCAD
• A highly motivated professional capable of prioritizing tasks and able to work with little to no supervision
