Position Title: Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist

Reports to: Operations Manager 

Location: Seattle, WA

Employment Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Must be able to work past normal duty hours and during time of emergencies as required by Contracting Officer Representative. If additional hours outside the normal duty day are required, they will be authorized in advance by the Contracting Officer.

Position Summary: Aldevra, LLC is currently seeking a qualified Medical Physicist to support the Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist and Radiology Department at Seattle VAMC. The medical physicist plays several essential roles in the radiology department. These roles can be examined under the mission of a radiology department: patient care, teaching, and research. Under patient care, the role of a medical physicist involves quality and safety activities, which include performing acceptance testing, conducting periodic evaluation of imaging modalities for regulatory and accreditation compliance, and providing patient dose estimations. As for teaching, medical physicists are typically involved in teaching radiology residents and radiation technologists and providing in-service education to staff and others. The medical physicist is the “go-to person” with regard to not only regulatory compliance but also the safety and quality of imaging. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:


Direct Patient Care (80%): 

  • Provide expertise as a Certified Therapeutic Medical Physicist (CTMP), overseeing all physics and dosimetry operations for VA radiation oncology services on-site at VA. 
  • Ensure the quality management of radiation oncology services, developing and implementing QMP policies, conducting quarterly QA reports, and maintaining current licenses for radioactive sources and software.
  • Manage equipment-related quality assurance, provide shielding surveys, develop and implement new procedures, and report adverse events and facility profile data to the National Health Physics Program (NHPP).

Medical Physics Support: 

  • Optimize and evaluate radiation treatment plans, ensuring precise radiation dose delivery while maintaining patient and staff safety.
  • Perform calculations, conduct systematic chart reviews, and maintain accurate records of equipment specifications and maintenance schedules.
  • Manage dosimetry, calibrate treatment equipment, oversee new procedures, and provide comprehensive network and computer support.
  • Assist with brachytherapy procedures and maintain detailed documentation of all activities related to radiation therapy equipment and procedures.

Administrative (20%): 

  • Attend service staff meetings and ensure timely reporting of patient safety incidents, adverse events, and incidents involving radioactive material, following VA and NHPP procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.
