Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
After an orientation/training period, the Clinical Services Medical – Float will independently function in the provision of patient care in any area of an assigned Variety Care clinic where there is a need. This includes patient care in adult/family medicine, pediatrics, immunization clinic, laboratory, optometry, behavioral health, and women’s health. Clinical Services Medical – Float may also function as a medical scribe.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates workload with other clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow and a positive experience for all patients.
- When working in a pod or clinic, greets and welcomes patients, escorts them to the appropriate location and prepare them to be seen by provider.
- Inquiries about any self-referrals, recent ER visits or hospitalizations, and requests information from appropriate sources, documenting all in the patient’s electronic healthcare record (EHR).
- Obtains patient history, patient’s stated chief complaint, vital signs, height and weight, respirations, pulse, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, allergies, active medication list, pain score, and head circumference (as appropriate) and documents in the EHR.
- Performs phlebotomy, waived testing, EKGs, and other diagnostic tests as ordered by the provider.
- Reconciles all of patient’s current medications, including vitamins, supplements, over the counter medications, PRNs, inhalers, etc. to create an accurate list in the EHR and for the patient.
- Administers medications, injections, and vaccines as prescribed by the provider, and documents accurately in the patient’s EHR and OSIIS.
- Assists providers with physical exams and procedures as directed.
- Responsible for efficient, productive workflow in clinic or pod assigned.
