Starting rate is $33 and increases with experience.

Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist I, in their role as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA, is responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting of both waived and non-waived test results. Under general supervision, each individual performs only those tests authorized by the laboratory manager and requiring a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.

Essential Functions
As outlined by CLIA, after successful completion of orientation, training, and competency assessment on all instruments/methods applicable to their role:
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical consultant, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. (42 CFR 493.1425, 493.1495)
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Required: BS/BA in Science from an accredited college and ASCP Certification Eligible or Certified
Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology and ASCP Certification Eligible or Certified OR Certification eligible CLT at MGH with one year of performance evaluations which meet or exceed expectations and Ten hours of documented continuing education in previous year within division, hospital or external programs
Skills required: All of the skills and abilities required for Clinical Laboratory Technologist and high level of analytical ability and judgement Good understanding of department policies and procedures, test principles and equipment operation Ability to work independently on standard procedures and assignments High level of professionalism Ability to participate as requested in performance improvement, work re-design and divisional development project
