JOB SUMMARY

The SIS Functional Lead is a key position in the Office of the Registrar that provides functional and analytic leadership in developing, designing, and supporting use of the Student Information System Northeastern University’s Student Information System (SIS). This role is involved in the design, development, and testing of solutions involving Banner application functionality and related data for the Office of the Registrar, including upgrades and modifications. This role works with both a short and long-term horizon in mind, ensuring that current operational and strategic needs are met and those choices we make today set the community up for success tomorrow. It also provides critical consulting and guidance on ancillary projects that interact with Banner Student. This role requires a deep understanding of the Banner Student system, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. The SIS Functional Lead plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of the university’s SIS and related systems.
Under the direction of the Senior Associate Registrar for Solution Delivery, this position works closely with ITS on the delivery of functionality to the community. The SIS Functional Lead will also engage directly with the Northeastern community in partnership with others in the Office of the Registrar to share Banner capabilities and determine requirements for operational and strategic tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
8+ years SIS experience in higher education, including direct experience with Ellucian Banner. Strong technical and functional knowledge of Ellucian Banner General and Student modules is required including student records, registration, class scheduling, course catalog, admissions, and other areas of the student module. Additional experience in Student Account Receivable and/or Financial Aid is highly desirable. Direct experience with the full SDLC lifecle, including developing business process documentation, functional designs, and test cases. Experience working on an Agile team is preferred. Demonstrated experience working with a variety of stakeholders whose work depends on student data. Experience presenting complex information to diverse audiences whose knowledge of technical details may vary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
70 % Functional Leadership of the SDLC lifecycle
Provide expertise on data, data structures, and configuration for systems and projects interacting with Banner Student.
Review Banner upgrades and determine the impact on current functionality.
Participate in the ongoing prioritization of SIS projects, collaborating on user stories and providing level of effort estimations.
Review customized code and recommend changes to improve accuracy and performance. Work with developers to provide code review on logic and structure of these modules.
Work with other areas to coordinate and resolve cross-module issues and integrated testing.
Train ITS development staff and functional users on the Banner Student system and data.
Assist with multiple Banner projects, each at various stages, including conversions, reevaluation/simplification of student record and curricular coding, and transfer credit/equivalencies.
Provide direction in developing testing methodology and test scripts for utilization during upgrades and patch application.
Ensure that data entry, usage, and processes meet the needs of multiple departments, including assisting in resolving situations where conflicts occur.
Troubleshoot any problems with using the Banner software by utilizing Banner product manuals, Ellucian customer support site, user support groups, and staff.
Maintain product knowledge and cross-train on other solutions as deemed appropriate to broaden skills.
30% Documentation and Knowledge Management:
Create as-is and to-be documentation of business processes, validating information with key stakeholders.
Lead the developing of ancillary SIS documentation to support the Office of the Registrar. Ensure standards in knowledge management are met for areas of responsibilities.
Proactively share knowledge with team members across the office in a variety of formats, supporting professional development goals that expand knowledge of the SIS across the office.
