The Microsoft AI Development Acceleration Program (MAIDAP) hires top candidates from BS, MS, and PhD programs to work on highly diverse, collaborative teams in a fast-paced learning environment. Over the course of 2 years, participants will partner closely with engineering teams across Microsoft to solve some of our most AI problems.
We are looking for a Senior Applied Science Manager based in our Redmond, WA location to grow the next generation of Microsoft talent and build amazing AI-enabled experiences for our customers.
In this role, you’ll guide our efforts by leading our data and applied scientists and machine learning engineers, working in concert with our product division partners to identify and build strategic examples of AI innovation, and delivering a framework for integration of our modules into Microsoft’s AI Platform. As a Senior Applied Science Manager on our team, you will shape our program’s development life cycle and establish practices. You’ll also help hire and nurture our incredibly talented and diverse team.

Responsibilities
- Recruit and lead a group of new-to-career data and applied ML scientists focused on advancing Microsoft’s AI capabilities by working on projects sourced from product teams across the company.
- Create an inclusive work environment where every employee can effectively engage and wants to be part of the team.
- Provide ongoing feedback that helps your direct reports improve their performance.
- Partner with multiple engineering and business partners to ensure that the solutions meet their business goals.
- Evangelize MAIDAP with product teams in Redmond.
- Transform business problems into project-based implementation plans by applying (and creating when necessary) the appropriate methods, algorithms, and tools, and by statistically validating the results against biases and errors.
- Acquire and use broad knowledge of innovative methods, algorithms, and tools from within Microsoft and from scientific literature.
- Apply your own analysis of scalability and applicability to the problem space.
- Together with the engineering and PM leaders on the team, deliver the framework for abstraction and reuse of our AI modules for integration into the AI platform.
- Up to 10% travel expected.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience as a practicing Data Scientist.
- 3+ years of experience as a technical lead, including mentoring and growing data and applied ML scientists.
