Requirements

The Office of Advancement in Georgetown University Law Center is charged with raising funds to advance the institution’s mission and achieve goals set forth by the Executive Vice President of the Law Center/Dean of the Law School and the Assistant Dean of Development & Alumni Affairs. Corporate and Foundation fundraising objectives include increasing outreach to new corporations and foundations, while retaining relationships with those who are already making charitable gifts to the institution, and increasing the total dollars raised.


Working closely with the AVP, Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Assistant Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations plays an essential role on the Law major gifts and corporate and foundation fundraising team. The Assistant Director carries out in-depth research and prospect analysis for corporate and foundation fundraising, is lead support for team CRM input and maintenance, and assists in the development of corporate and foundation funding proposals. Successful candidates in this role recognize that they make an impression on those seeking contact with the Development Office (alumni, donors, Law Center faculty, staff, administrators) and that the service provided to those individuals affects the reputation of the office and the successful completion of department goals. There is a great deal of sensitive donor, alumni, project, and budget information that must be kept confidential.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Draft and edit major gift, corporate, and foundation proposals and other fundraising and marketing documents.

  • Coordinate check list, preparation and submission of proposal packages.

  • Research, identify, and analyze corporate and foundation prospects and prepare briefings for dissemination.

  • Disseminate prospective funding briefings and opportunities to faculty and center directors, tracking metrics.

  • Maintain current corporate and foundation contact records, opportunities, solicitations and activities in the CRM.

  • Maintain familiarity with Law Center programs and faculty research and other Georgetown departments as it relates to Law Center opportunities for collaboration.

  • Coordinate and facilitate front line team learning opportunities such as team lunch and learns and faculty presentations.

Work Interactions
The Assistant Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations reports to the AVP, Corporate and Foundation Relations. The Assistant Director will work closely with the AVP, Corporate and Foundation Relations to provide research, writing, meeting coordination, and CRM support to the AVP, CFR and other senior Development staff members. The Assistant Director will interact with Law Center faculty and senior administration on research dissemination, program updates, proposal development, and interact with the Law Advancement team, the Law Center Finance team, the Joint Office of Research Administration, as well as the Office of Institutional Partnerships and Office of Advancement colleagues across the department and university units as necessary.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3-5 years of corporate and foundation prospect research, prospect cultivation and strategy, and proposal writing experience

  • Knowledge and curiosity about philanthropic sector with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong computer skills including all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Analytical skills are a must with good organizational skills, flexibility, and confidentiality

  • Proven track record of successful fundraising in the $500,000+ annually

  • An ability to work with many different constituencies is absolutely necessary, as is the ability to balance multiple projects and stakeholders
