We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join our team as a Director, Editorial, based in Japan. As a key member of our editorial team, you will play a vital role in driving the growth and success of our content-driven technology product, Westlaw Japan. With a focus on people leadership, functional expertise, and stakeholder management, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality content, managing teams, and fostering strong relationships with internal and external partners.

About the Role
In this opportunity as a Director, Editorial, you will:
- Responsible for overall team direction, performance, and work assignment. Attracts, identifies, and grows talent within the team. Coordinates team training, learning and development
- Leads and enables editorial relationships with authors, professional bodies, and content partners, including government and official agencies. Overall responsibility for the sourcing, production, development and updating of content for the Japan legal market. Coordinates the commissioning and updating of content, and author succession planning. Ensure adherence to production, cost schedules and best practice
- Works closely with managers and editorial staff to drive and monitor delivery against the business plan, recommending regular changes and improvement. Implements cost-saving initiatives and standardize editorial processes where possible. Manages vendor and outsourced workflows effectively
- Represents Editorial in developing content for new products and enhancements of existing products. Supports planning and business cases to drive content development, leveraging emerging technologies
- Maintains key customer relationships to support current and future content needs.
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Director, Editorial if you have the following required qualifications:
- Over 10 years of experience in managing people and diverse teams, with a proven track record of leadership and team development
- Bilingual, with fluency and proficiency in written and spoken Japanese and English
- Experience in managing customer and stakeholder relationships, and projects, with a focus on delivering high-quality results and building strong partnerships
- Experience with vendors for resource optimization and cost management, with a focus on delivering value and efficiency
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders
- Proven ability to operationalize plans for growth, with a strong understanding of commercial and business principles
- Strong analytical skills, with commercial acumen and the ability to drive business outcomes
Additional preferred qualifications include:
- Legal graduate with post-graduate experience in the Japanese legal profession
- Strong interest in emerging technologies, such as AI, and their application to content and research
