POSITION SPECIFICS

Dr. Luis Ayala, Head of the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering, and Dr. Zuleima Karpyn, EMS Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research, invite applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position to support and conduct independent research in the area of computational studies of flow in porous media at the pore scale. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with strong written and oral communication skills, excellent computational skills, and substantial experience with programming languages and computational fluid dynamics software packages such as OpenFOAM and COMSOL Multiphysics. Expertise in reservoir engineering and phase-field modeling is also desirable.

Interested candidates should submit: (1) application letter highlighting qualifications for the position; (2) a curriculum vitae including educational background, employment history, and a list of peer reviewed publications; (3) research statement of your interests in the context of the desired qualifications; (4) contact information of three referees.

The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research in pore-scale computational modeling and will develop, test, and deploy pore-scale simulation models for the analysis of flow in porous media in conventional and unconventional formations. These efforts will focus on capturing the coupled physics governing these systems and reproducing relevant laboratory experiments designed to validate the models. The candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate with researchers at Penn State and at other institutions.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. This position will be funded for one year from the date of hire with possibility of renewal.
