Job Summary:

Directs a broad, comprehensive program of operational auditing within the organization, and leads the daily operations of the internal audit team. Supports senior management in developing a risk-based, data-driven audit plan based on direction from executive management and the Board Audit Committee. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Seven years' audit, finance, or operational experience: Preferred
  • Five years' leadership experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Professional certification of CPA: Required
  • Professional internal audit certification, i.e., Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), etc.: Preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Establishes policies for auditing activity and directs its technical and administrative functions. Develops and executes a comprehensive audit program for the evaluation of internal controls, mitigation of risks and assessment of various financial situations. Conducts special examinations at the request of management or the Board Audit Committee. Works collaboratively with other auditors, shared services, ministry function and senior management, as needed. Acts as a key advisor to senior management on the development of overall policy and long-term goals of the department(s).
  • Leads with an operational focus, setting strategy, objectives and policies. Oversees the planning, coordination and review of all operational audits, as well as the internal/external training of audit staff. Reviews working papers, reports, management letters and other communications prepared by audit staff. Leads the performance management process including evaluations, coaching and development of all direct reports.
  • Reviews all operational audit reports prior to issuance. Ensures reports are clear and impactful, and uses effective/efficient communication techniques to effect the necessary changes in policy procedures, or controls. Appraises the adequacy of actions taken by management to correct reported deficient conditions. Accepts adequate corrective actions and conducts continuing reviews with appropriate management personnel on actions considered inadequate until a satisfactory resolution has been achieved.
  • Prepares reports for the senior management to use in communications with executive management and the Board Audit Committee. Leads department(s) activities through managers and supervisors, including full human resources, cost and financial accountability. Controls planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods. Prepares department(s) budgets and recommends for approval.
  • Demonstrates understanding of organizational systems/procedures and overall business operations in the role of auditor and business advisor. Keeps informed of current technical developments and pending matters important to minimizing/mitigating risks to the organization. Oversees staff learning and development.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
