A Senior Enterprise Linux and Storage Engineer is a specialized IT professional responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and maintaining the Linux-based infrastructure, storage solutions, and cloud services. Their role combines expertise in Linux systems, storage technologies, and cloud computing to ensure the organization's IT infrastructure operates smoothly, securely, and efficiently.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Linux Systems Administration:
- Work with BUs to develop build requirements for DB, Application and support servers and services
- Develop and maintain Oracle based hypervisors based on licensing restrictions
- Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers and systems (such as Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.) Perform system updates, patches, and upgrades to ensure security and stability
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Linux operating systems and applications
- Define security measures, including firewalls, access controls, and encryption
- Track system usage and provide insights for capacity planning
- Coordinate customer focused testing and present results
Data Center Solutions:
- Deploy, manage and maintain compute and storage solutions
- Maintain data center documentation of all components including compute, storage, network, backup systems
- Coordinate on-site vendor access for hardware related issues
Storage Solutions:
- Design and manage storage solutions, including both traditional on-premises storage arrays and modern software-defined storage
- Implement data storage and management best practices, including backup and disaster recovery strategies
- Optimize storage performance, capacity, and scalability to meet the organization's needs
- Monitor storage systems for performance, availability, and health
- Track storage usage and provide insights for capacity planning
- Work with vendors on new release features and how they may benefit the organization
- Research new storage solutions
Application Support
- Work with Bus and IT teams to design and implement system improvements
Automation and Orchestration:
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools (using tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef) to streamline deployment and management tasks
- Orchestrate complex workflows and processes across the Linux, storage, and cloud environments
- Implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles to ensure consistency and reproducibility
Performance Tuning and Optimization:
- Monitor system performance and identify bottlenecks; apply optimizations to improve efficiency
- Analyze and fine-tune resource allocation, load balancing, and network configurations
- Implement caching, load balancing, and content delivery solutions to enhance application performance
Collaboration and Documentation:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, network engineers, and security professionals, to ensure a cohesive IT environment
- Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for reference and knowledge sharing
Security and Compliance:
- Establish and implement security best practices to protect data, systems, and applications
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational policies
- Participate in security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing and provide assessments and recommendations based on results
Incident Response and Troubleshooting:
- Respond to and resolve incidents, outages, and technical issues promptly
- Take leadership role in problem resolution including root cause analysis to identify and address underlying problems and maintaining communication with affected Bus and support teams
- Provide on-call support as required to maintain system availability
Emerging Technologies and Trends:
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in Linux, storage, and cloud computing
